Corporate Social Responsibility in Myanmar by Belmond Road to Mandalay
We are committed to the beautiful country of Myanmar and its people, and combined CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility projects by our hotel and river cruise have helped to support our local communities - using elements of wellbeing, culture and nature.
The aim of the combined projects is to support the Belmond Free Healthcare Clinic in Bagan, give back to the local economy of the villages visited with Belmond Road to Mandalay and to promote the arts and culture of Myanmar. The Belmond Free Healthcare Clinic was started in 2011 by Dr Hla Tun, the on-board doctor of Belmond Road to Mandalay. The clinic operates three days a week in the village of Taung Be, and has grown to be an important health centre for the surrounding region. In 2017 Dr Tun and his team treated a total of 25,442 patients, and in addition to healthcare the clinic provides a free lunch to patients and their families. The clinic is supported primarily by donations from guests travelling on Belmond Road to Mandalay, as well as the arts initiatives Belmond carries out in Myanmar.
Belmond has been operating in Myanmar for over 20 years, ever since the launch of the iconic Belmond Road to Mandalay river cruise.
A while back, LGTNetwork and our Founder Carlos Melia, visited Myanmar, and spent time at the Belmond Free Healthcare Clinic in Bagan, witnessing first hand the amazing work being done to support and empower the local community. See more on Carlos Melia's Journey to Myanmar
